The Best Apps for Planning Photo Shoots – Fstoppers

Smartphones are incredibly powerful tools, and they offer a ton of apps and features that make them one of the most useful things a photographer can carry with them. With the huge number of apps out there, it can be tricky to know which is right for you and your work. This fantastic video tutorial features an experienced photographer walking you through some of the best options.

Coming to you from Mark Duffy, this great video tutorial will show you some of the best apps for photographers out there. My personal favorite is PhotoPills. For example, I will be in the area of totality for the April 8, 2024 eclipse, and thanks to the app’s advanced planning features, I already know exactly how it will be positioned relative to the local geography and have even been able to plan my compositions thanks to the AR features. It is nice to have confidence and peace of mind in my plan of attack for what will be a once-in-a-lifetime event that will only last for a few minutes. If you haven’t explored some of the apps out there, be sure to download a few. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Duffy.
